Should I break up with my boyfriend after he stood me up?

We've known each other since we were 12/13 and used 2 b friends..when I turned 16 we began dating, we've been on and off for two years now.but no matter who we talk 2 while we're seperated we always come back 2 each other..I like him bcuz he's different from the guys that approach me daily..he comes over a lot bt when we make plans 2 go out we're back at square 1..this os the 4th time..he has no car and the 1st time was 2yrs ago.I believed him ..then we planned a trip 2 the movies..failed..he said he fell asleep.[came over the next day we talked n worked everything out]..then my mom had tickets to a play n asked him if he wanted 2 come[he's never been 2 a play] he said yes[he never says no.he just won't show up]so she got him a ticket..the day of the play rolls around .we talked I told him I wld call him back when I knew the exact time so he cld b ready..he never answered..later that night he texted me..n later tld nme he was playing bball wit friends ndidnt have his phone..now I wld like him 2 b more responsible but I do love him n don't wanna break up.plus I can't risk him doing this on my prom night either ..idk what 2 do..ppl tell me 2 leave others say work it out..Im confused
