Why is there clearish slime on top of my salt water tank?

This is caused by protein and other waste products in the water, it creates a sticky film on the surface. It can be a real pain if it becomes rather thick and it can also block out light. New tanks are particularly prone to this however it can easily be removed by skimming the water surface with some grease-proof paper.
