What do you think it would have been like to have been born in the Ukraine in 1920 and live your life there.?
Well, being born in the Ukraine in 1920 would not be all that bad because in that decade, the region was the breadbasket of Europe. But nine years later, living there would be horrible. In 1929, Seven million people in the Ukraine were deliberately starved to death at Stalin's command, in an effort to destroy the well-to-do peasant farmers. Joseph Stalin ordered the collectivization of all Ukrainian farms. In the ensuing years, a brutal Soviet campaign of confiions, terrorizing, and murder spread throughout Ukrainian villages. What food remained after the seizures was insufficient to support the population. In the resulting famine as many as seven million Ukrainians starved to death.
